PRESENTATION OF MFK

Meds & Food for Kids (MFK) is an independent non-profit organization (NGO) manufacturing Ready-to-Use Foods (RUFs) located in Cap Haitian, Haiti. MFK was established in 2003 with the mission to prevent and treat malnutrition in Haiti through the local production and distribution of nutritious foods. Malnutrition rates in Haiti are high, with one in five children under 5 chronically malnourished (stunting), and one in ten with acute malnutrition (wasting). In 2010, MFK became a member of the PlumpyField® network of Nutriset, an international network of independent local producers of RUFs dedicated to promoting nutritional autonomy in the developing world.

Message from the Executive Director Dr. Patricia Wolff

“Since 2003, we have been dedicated to saving the lives of Haiti’s malnourished children and other nutritionally vulnerable people. While we currently work in Haiti to produce Medika Mamba, MFK’s life-saving therapeutic food, we can’t keep up with the need. Joining the PlumpyField® network has enabled us to build a new state-of-the-art factory in order to respond to the immense need for RUF products. We will thus treat more malnourished children through increased production, while at the same time introducing supplementary foods that can help prevent childhood malnutrition. We’ll go from helping 8,000 to 80,000 children a year. We will also foster economic development by creating more jobs, buying more peanuts and helping more families.”
