The PlumpyField® network brings together food industry partners (companies or NGOs), which produce the Plumpy® range of products in partnership with NUTRISET.

Today, PlumpyField includes 12 members in developing countries, as well as a non-profit organization based in the United States. (Click here to download the members summary .pdf file)

The mission of the PlumpyField network is to improve access to innovative nutritional solutions meeting international quality standards through local production, close to the populations requiring them.

Local production of nutritional solutions:
A bridge between emergency and development

Since 2005 with the first large scale projects of local production of high-quality Ready-to-Use Foods, the PlumpyField network targeted several objectives:

  • To develop, manufacture and offer Ready-to-Use Foods based on the most advanced nutritional research and in compliance with international quality standards,
  • To combat malnutrition and improve children's health, from treatment to prevention via a network of national producers,
  • To develop a distribution system that provides nutritional supplements that prevent infant malnutrition directly to the consumer, through social marketing,
  • To develop and improve the quality of local agricultural supply chains (peanuts, oil, etc.) so as to increase the economic and social impact in the countries, the best way to promote nutritional autonomy.

By improving access to its nutritional solutions locally, the network creates employment and in doing so contributes not only to the fight against malnutrition, but also to the fight against poverty. In that sense, this network proposes a concrete solution to bridge the gap between emergency and development.

 Measurable results on the ground

In 2011, on the 30 000 metric tons of Plumpy’Nut® totally produced, 10 200 have been manufactured by the PlumpyFieldpartners.

Thanks to that production, 750 000 children have been treated for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in 2011. Since its inception, the network has produced 26 430 MT of Plumpy’Nut® product, allowing the treatment of almost 2 millions SAM children.

All members producing successfully passed the international Quality inspection done by the procuring organisations. This demonstrates the success of the local production model and the high quality standards implemented in this network.

The PlumpyField network is well on its way becoming a real community sharing values, know-how, quality standards, information, and incentives for further innovation.
